What are the Dangers?

The article I read, 10 Statistics That Capture The Dangers of Texting and Driving from The Huffington Post, shows us the dangers of texting while driving. The ways it shows us its dangers is through the statistics. I learned that approximately 341,000 crashes in 2013 were caused by texting while driving. This is shocking information because its a wakeup call to everyone. Looking at a number that big is a jaw dropper and there's something needed to be done about it. We cant put our lives in such drastic situations like this just because of a slight distraction. According to the CDC, I read that at 55 mph, the average text message puts your eyes off the road long enough to stretch over a football field. That’s 360 feet of distraction!

What are Some Possible Solutions?

According to the CDC, many states are pushing laws out that ban the use of phones in cars to prevent texting and driving and other forms of distracted driving. Some other possible solutions include preventing texting and driving on employees who work for the government. Of course, this doesn't apply to all of us because we all don’t work for the government, so there's still more to be done about it.

Lastly, Your Thoughts

Using these statistics, we can see that texting and driving is obviously dangerous, killing massive amounts of people every year. The fact that the average text at 55 mph takes the length of a football field is quite shocking to me. So with all of this in mind, what do you think still needs to be done about it? Is it important? Who does it affect? What do you think would help to prevent texting and driving or distracted driving in general? Should developers push out applications or new technology that limits the phone's uses while we drive? Why does it seem that texting is addictive and what makes it addictive? Is smart technology to blame for this issue? Is this shocking to you and does it matter? Why or why not?

  1. I do agree that texting while driving causes a lot of accidents. I agree with this because I see people on their phone a lot when they are driving, which causes them not to pay attention. What got me interested is how fast you are going can easily take your eyes off the road. What are the recent statistics of collisions from texting while driving? Are those statistics relevant to 2016? Is it teenagers that more often get into crashes due to texting while driving? How many fatal crashes are caused by texting while driving? What will the police officers do when they see someone text while driving?

  2. Texting while driving is a serious problem that we definitely need to solve. Is it possible that many experienced drivers, feeling overconfident in their driving abilities, tend to break this law more often than less experienced drivers? Do more teens die doing this activity due to their inexperience in driving? Do you think that the use of Bluetooth devices would be helpful in decreasing this problem? This way those who need to send an urgent text can do so without taking their eyes off the road. I don't believe that technology is the problem. It is those who misuse it that wreak havoc in our society.

  3. We all know that we all are depend on technology, we can not run away from it. We should find the possible solutions to prevent the possible accident. Technology brought new invention that makes our life enjoyable. Smart Cell phone are connected with people as a part of their body. The major problem of it is driving with texting. Now it is the problem for all over the world. To avoid this problem we all have to leave texting while driving. This looks inappropriate, but this will be the easiest possible solution. If Laws pushes us out the use of phones in cars to prevent texting and driving, that can hurt person’s choice and there is no guarantee that all people can follow the laws.

  4. Without doubt, I stronly believe that texting while driving is SERIOUSLY a dangerous thing to do. Unfortunately, many people do it. It is truly something that "really" bothers me... I understand that there are certainly times when we might me waiting for an important text abd we just have to see it even if we are driving. However, this shouldn't happen. Instead, whenever we receive a message we should wait until we get to our destination. Being honest, many can't. This is why they decide to use their phones "without " actually considering all the harm that could cause. I don't understand why it was being said that now people where going to get fined for texting while driving, but I've seen many, many people doing it and what happens? NOTHING! The police doesn't see that and THAT is putting in risk many others. I honestly think this is a great issue, I am truly interested in it.

  5. Interesting how 341,000 crashes in 2013 are caused by texting! That is crazy and ive seen people that go over 55mph distract drivers and mostly I can imagen the horrible things they do when they cause and accident. On the banning phones of cars that’s impossible there is going to be ways people will keep to use phones. They will find a way; it would be great to see if people would stop but in my part it is getting worse. I that I work concrete I think I see more people using their phone including me because I need to call my boss. What I am trying to say is that it is hard to band something that is needed 99 percent of the time. I think this blog is very interesting! Good job on the topic, Props! And can’t wait to see what the real outcome would be.

  6. Its crazy to see how many crashes were caused by a small handheld device. People need to have more self restrain when driving because that message could potentially cause you your life. Whats agreeable is how we need to get rid of the distractions our phones cause us. Lowering the crashes every year and saving more people from dying in car crashes. What I don't agree with is how banning cellphone use in cars will be an effective way to prevent the crashes. The laws in place right now aren't enough and with the addition of more laws won't stop this major problem.
